For the second time in the last three seasons, the Cerritos College men's water polo team saw their season come to an end with a loss to Los Angeles Valley College. On Friday, the #6-seeded Falcons (16-13) were defeated by the host Monarchs in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Back in 2015, Cerritos suffered a 16-10 setback in the third place game of the regional playoffs.

It was the second loss of the season by the Falcons against #3-seeded LA Valley, who posted a 12-4 win at the Riverside City Tournament back in the first week of October.

Cerritos fell behind quickly against the Monarchs, who took a 6-2 lead after the first quarter. However, the Falcons battled back and limited them to one goal in the second quarter, with sophomore Julian Casillas (Harvard-Westlake HS/University of La Verne) scoring twice in the quarter. After freshmen Arturo Ortuno (Universidad La Salle, HS Mexico) and Raul Muniz (Colbach HS, Mexico) scored in the third quarter, the Falcons trailed just 7-6 with 4:04 remaining in the third quarter.

But LA Valley scored the next four goals in the game and went on to finish off the Falcons. Casillas led the team with four goals, while Muniz picked up a pair of goals for Cerritos in the loss.
