Starting her second season on the staff is former Cerritos softball and basketball player Cecily Garcia. A 2nd Team All-South Coast Conference selection in both sports, Garcia was a member of the 2008 CCCAA State Championship softball team, as well as the 2007 team that reached the state championship game. She hit .289 with seven RBI as a freshman and was named the team’s Most Improved Player, while she followed that up by batting .203 with five RBI her sophomore season. While on the basketball team, she averaged 2.6 points a game as a freshman and then averaged 4.4 points, 3.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds as a sophomore, while also being named the team’s Best Defensive Player.

Over the last seven years, Garcia has served as the head coach for the 14U/16U Nemesis Elite travel team and led them to the 2010 ASA Western National Championship.

Garcia prepped at St. Joseph High School, where she only played basketball in high school. She was voted her team’s Best Defensive Player as a sophomore and junior, as well as their Most Valuable Player as a freshman.

Garcia’s sister Samie played for the Falcons in 2010 and was named the National Player of the Year before transferring to the University of South Carolina. Shespent four seasons in the National Fastpitch League and is now embarking on a broadcasting career, while her cousin, Jacoby Ellsbury, is a member of the New York Yankees.

Garcia, 26, and her son Antonio Rivera (3) reside in Whittier.
