Led by a first half run that put the team up 38-17, the Cerritos College women's basketball team opened the Fullerton Tournament with a 58-39 win over Los Angeles Pierce College. The Falcons (6-6) will now face South Coast Conference rival Mt. San Antonio College on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the semifinals.

Sophomore Jacalyn Saiza (Santa Fe HS) netted all six of her free throws during that first half run, while freshman Selena Romero (Lakewood HS) and sophomore Nia Lateju (Norwalk HS) each accounted for five points to help give the Falcons a 21-point advantage at intermission.

Although they struggled from the first in the second half (7-for-28), the Falcons were able to maintain their lead and led by as many as 30 points (56-26) with 8:21 remaining. The Brahmas (10-5) were off line on all 17 of their three-pointers in the game, which contributed to their 23% shooting from the field. Lateju finished with a game-high 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Saiza ended with a season-high 12 points and eight assists. Playing extended minutes off the bench, sophomore Dijonnae Murphy (Santa Fe HS) pulled down 11 rebounds, while freshman Cassidy Carrillo (St. Paul HS) added 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
