The Cerritos College women's soccer team posted their third shutout in as many games this season, as they defeated host Cosumnes River, 4-0. The Falcons (2-0-1) were completing a two-game road swing to Northern California and will play their first home game of the season at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday against San Diego Miramar College. The game was postponed a week ago when the Jets didn't have enough players due to injuries.
In the win over the Hawks, the Falcons got on the board in the 12th minute when freshman Mayela Medina (Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy HS) collected the ball in the 18-yard box and crossed it to freshman Alixzandra Evans (Batavia, IL HS), who headed the ball over the outstretched hands of the keeper. Cerritos continued to look for ways to add to their lead and recorded seven shots on goal in the first half. On the defensive end, the Falcons did not allow Cosumnes River (2-3-0) a shot on goal the entire game.
In the final 15 minutes of the game, Cerritos put three into the net, with two of them 2:05 apart. The first came when sophomore Itzel Ballesteros (Maywood Academy HS) won the ball from about 30 yards out, turned and found herself alone against the goalkeeper. One slick move later, and she was able to make it a 2-0 game. Ballesteros had a hand in the next goal when she used her speed down the line and then spotted Evans, who was able to score on a one-timer for her second of the game.
The scoring closed out in the 87th minute, as freshman Mia Ramirez (Torrance HS) finished off the play with her fourth goal of the season. Sophomore Yvonne Martinez (Huntington Beach HS/Dominican University) started the play when she moved the ball down the sideline and hit Ramirez with a nice pass that she was able to one-time into the back of the net.
Freshman goalkeeper Deisy Rodriguez (Katella HS) earned the win by playing the first 45 minutes, with freshman Andrea Diaz (Cerritos HS) coming on in the second half and wasn't tested by the Hawks.
