Needing to string together wins to maintain their chances of hosting a Southern California Regional Playoff game, the Cerritos College women's soccer team posted a 2-1 South Coast Conference win over host Long Beach City College on Friday. The Falcons (10-4-2, 3-1-0) remain in second place in conference play with four more matches remaining. Next up will be a 3:00 p.m. home game against El Camino College on Tuesday.

Cerritos scored their two goals in the first half and had five of their seven shots on net. In the 15th minute, freshman Samantha Martinez (San Pedro HS) fed a ball through the LBCC defense to freshman Brianna Flores (North Torrance HS), who received it 30 yards out. After a quick touch to secure the ball, she fired off a shot that got past Vikings goalkeeper Almareli Quintero. It was a 2-0 game early in the 37th minute, as sophomore Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS) dribbled the ball to the end line and crossed it to the other side to freshman Lucia Yanez (El Rancho HS). In similar fashion as the first goal, it only took one touch to gain control of the pass, and Yanez placed a shot into the right corner to double the team's lead.

Long Beach spoiled the shutout bid in the 60th minute, but freshman goalkeeper Liza Cisneros (Bellflower HS) was able to finish the day with six saves to secure the win.
