After the first day of the CCCAA State Championships at East Los Angeles College, the Cerritos College women's swimming team competed in four events and compiled 40.5 points to hold down 11th place. On Friday, the Falcons will be competing in one relay event, with four other individual race participants.

The team opened the day by competing in the 200-yard freestyle relay and their prelim time of 1:42.36 put them in ninth place, which meant they would be competing in the consolation finals, where they quartet of sophomore Katherine Gabayeron (Cerritos HS), freshman Raquel Gabayeron (Cerritos HS), freshman Milena Hernandez (Cerritos HS) and freshman Angela Covarrubias (Paramount HS) recorded a time of 1:42.43, which put them in 12th place overall.

The relay team was comprised of freshman Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS), the Gabayeron sisters and Covarrubias.

Swimming in an individual event was Katherine Gabyeron, who looked to match her second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle that she attained last season. After coming in fifth place in the prelims, Gabayeron posted a time of 5:10.73 to finish the state championships in fourth place, and was two seconds off her school record time. Raquel Gabayeron swam in the 100-yard IM and just missed out on competing in the championship final. But her consolation time of 1:02.30 put her in a tie for 11th place.
