After a pair of seasons where she was named All-American both times, Cerritos College sophomore women's water polo play Mia Carbajal has signed with Cal Baptist University. Carbajal had committed to the Lancers prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, but chose to stay and play for the Falcons for one more season.

One of the most prolific scorers in school history, Carbajal led the Falcons to a 21-8 record in 2021 and they advanced to the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. She led the team with 98 goals and 74 steals, while her 40 assists were tied for second most on the team. Carbajal becomes just the second two-time All-American in school history, joining Stephanie Rosero, who was named in 2007 and 2008.

Carbajal finishes her career with 196 goals, which is second behind Rosero (198), while her 98 goals this year was third most in the state and ranks her tied for fourth most in a season in school history. Additionally, Carbajal's 40 assists ties for the 10th most in a season, while her 74 steals is tied for the ninth most in a season. She scored at least one goal in 28 of the team's 29 games on the season, which included a season-high six goals in three different games. As for Alvarez, who was a 2nd Team All-Southern California selection, she finished second on the team with 61 goals, while also posting 65 steals and 27 assists. She also scored in 28 of the team's games, which included a season-high four goals in four separate games.

In her freshman season on the water polo team, Carbajal led the team in goals (96), steals (71) and ejections drawn (70), while becoming the 10th All-American selection under head coach Sergio Macias. She was also a 1st Team All-Southern California and 1st Team All-South Coast Conference pick. During the 2020 Falcon swimming season, which ended in the middle of March, Carbajal was making a run for the State Championships in the breaststroke, which was her speciality. She was looking to match the accomplishment of her sister, Mehgan, who was an All-American swimmer in the breaststroke as a sophomore in 2011.

When Carbajal was thought to be leaving after her freshman season, Macias stated, "The moment Cal Baptist sees Mia do some amazing things in the water, and when she hops out of the pool, her teammates will look at her size and say, 'how did that little thing pull that off'? Mia will definitely increase the level of intensity with her approach to practice and games and I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes a team favorite since she is such an awesome teammate."
