Although they had just two hits on the day, the Cerritos College baseball team left six runners in scoring position in their 2-1 South Coast Conference loss to ECC Compton Center on Saturday. The Falcons (13-11, 7-5) and the conference will take their Spring Break this week, with the team traveling to Santa Maria for the Allan Hancock Tournament. On Tuesday, Cerritos will play a 6:00 p.m. game against Fresno City College at Elks Field. They will also play games on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the loss to the Tartars, the Falcons stranded at least one runner on base in eight of the nine innings. Sophomore third baseman Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS) hit a two-out triple in the first inning, but was left on base. Freshman outfielder Jesse Perdomo (California HS) was it by a pitch with two outs in the second inning, while sophomore second baseman Justin Walsh (Katella HS) followed with a base hit. The two were left on base when sophomore outfielder Nick Vasquez (El Rancho HS) hit into a fielder's choice to end the threat.

By the end of the game, Compton had used seven pitchers, who didn't allow the Falcons a hit after the second inning and struck out eight on the day. Sophomore pitcher Kyle Carpenter (Mayfair HS) returned to the lineup for Cerritos after an injury and pitched 7 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six batters.

Cerrritos scored their lone run in the ninth inning, as Walsh reached base on an error with one out. Sophomore Aaron David (Katella HS) kept the inning alive when Tartars shortstop Luis Terrazas committed his second straight miscue and the Falcons had runners on second and third. A ground out by freshman Benny Arce (Santa Monica HS) brought home the lone run before sophomore Edgar Menendez (Katella HS) struck out to end the game.
