A pair of players from this year's Cerritos College men's basketball team, along with one from the 2013 season, have signed to play with four-year schools next season. Shooting guard Jordan Reise (Huntington Beach HS) has signed with Notre Dame de Namur (CA) University, while power forward Iyke Akajiobi (La Habra HS) will be playing at Eastern New Mexico University. Forward Andrew Torres (Montebello HS), who played for the Falcons during the 2012-13 season, will play at Whittier College, after spending his freshman year at Humboldt State University.
Reise, who averaged 6.7 points a game, led the team with 48 three-pointers on the season. He netted at least one shot from beyond the arch in 25 of the team's 30 games, including a season-high five three-pointers in a win over Los Angeles Southwest College. That 15-point game came right after he scored a season-high 16 points in a one-point loss to Mt. San Antonio College. Reise also averaged 2.8 rebounds a game. The Argos are losing three senior guards to graduation and are coming off a year where they went 7-19.
As for Akajiobi, he appeared in 23 games for the Falcons this season and averaged 1.4 points and 1.3 rebounds a game in limited minutes. After playing his freshman season at Rio Hondo College in 2008-09, Akajiobi was away from basketball, but came to Cerritos, where he was able to step in and start seven games during the year. Although he didn't score much, he was a big body in the middle and had at least three rebounds in seven games, including a season-high five boards against Mt. San Antonio. A young team, the Greyhounds are looking to replace the four big men that are graduating after going 14-13 on the year and lost in the first round of the Lone Star State Conference Tournament.
In his one season with the Falcons, Torres played in 24 games and averaged 3.0 points and 2.6 rebounds a game during the 2012-13 year. He did score a season-high 13 points against Santa Ana College on 5-of-5 shooting, which included a three-pointer, while he accounted for six boards against both Southwestern College and Grossmont College. At Whittier College, where he served as a red-shirt last season, Torres will look to fill the void of the loss of three big men, while also adding an outside shooting touch. The Poets are coming off an 11-14 record that included losses in eight of their last nine games.
