Hosting Chaffey College in their South Coast Conference opener on Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team allowed the first goal of the game and then went on to score the remainder of the goals for an 18-1 victory. Next up for the Falcons (8-6, 1-0) is the San Diego Mesa Tournament on September 22. With such a lop-sided score, the entire team had a chance to play, which resulted in 12 different players scoring, with six of them scoring twice. There were also 15 players who had at least one steal, as Cerritos finished with 26 in the match.
Leading 2-1 after the first period, the Falcons went on to score 10 goals in the second period, with sophomores Kobe Hurtado (Cerritos HS) and Eric Estrada (Cerritos HS) each posting a pair of tallies. Also scoring twice in the match were Roman Ramos (Schurr HS), Ruben Montoya (California HS), Angel Espinosa (Downey HS) and Joaquin De Leon (Downey HS).
Defensively, Hurtado, Montoya, Declan Nelson (Corona HS) and Timothy Robles (Schurr HS) all recorded three steals in the team effort. In goal, Diego Campos (Downey HS) started the game and allowed the lone Panthers goal, with Henry De Luna Pena (Baldwin Park HS) playing the second half.
