For the third time this season, the Cerritos College wrestling team took second place at a tournament. The Falcons, who are ranked #2 in the state, had three individual weight champions and finished with 122 team points. They trailed only #1-ranked and conference rival Mt. San Antonio College, who won the tournament with 131.5 team points. Cerritos will travel to Palomar College this Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. Southwest Conference match.

Freshman 149-pound Felix Osorio (Santa Fe HS) was the first of the three champions, as he defeated three opponents to take the title. After opening with a bye, Osorio pinned Andy Rodriguez of Moorpark College in 1:31 and then recorded a 14-2 major decision against Jacob Yamaguchi of Cuesta College to move into the championship match. Taking on Rio Hondo College's Donovan Sanin in the finals, the two had an exciting match, with Osorio coming away with a 14-11 decision.

At 157 pounds, it was freshman Daniel Bracamontes (Villa Park HS), who was competing for the first time this season, that provided the Falcons second champion. A bye in the first round advanced him to the next round, where he took on Kai Schaefer of Cuesta College, who he pinned in 2:22. That led him to take on Josue Aguilar of East Los Angeles College and Bracamontes earned a 12-2 major decision, which sent him to the semifinals against Gavin Kaminski of Palomar College. Another dominant performance resulted in a 20-6 major decision, sending him to the finals to take on Jerry Rubio of Mt. San Antonio College. Continuing his offensive onslaught, Bracamontes handed Rubio an 11-4 loss and another title for the Falcons. Rubio had advanced to the finals with a pair of technical falls and a major decision.

The team's final weight champion came at 285 pounds, where the state's #1 ranked wrestler, freshman Jonovan Smith (Birmingham Charter HS) pinned three consecutive opponents before a hard-fought 11-8 win over Jacob Larsen of Santa Rosa College earned him the title. Larsen entered the tournament ranked #3 in the state. Smith needed 4:44 to pin Palomar's Allen Salgado in the first round and followed that with a pin over Chabot College's Edgar Tolentino in just 1:30. The semifinals saw Smith finish off Tavin Avila of West Hills College in 1:02 to advance to the finals.

Sophomore Roland Dominguez (Downey HS) was able to reach the championship match at 133 pounds, but came up short against #6-ranked Trevor Bagan of Santa Rosa, 2-0. At 184 pounds, freshman Joseph Rodriguez (Paramount HS) took third place, as he rebounded from a semifinal loss to eventual champion Jonathan Hunter of Bakersfield College by posting a 14-3 major decision against Armando Rodriguez of Palomar in the third place match. The 125-pound duo of Isaiah Perez (Sonora HS) and Evan McShane (North Torrance HS) took fourth and fifth places, respectively, with freshman Stone Robledo (Villa Park HS) turning in a fourth place finish at 174 pounds.
