Competing in their final regular season tournament before the Southern California Championships, the Cerritos College wrestling team had two individual champions at the East Los Angeles Brawl on Saturday. The Falcons, who are ranked #2 in the state, will travel to Cuesta College on December 4 in hopes of advancing as many as 12 wrestlers to the CCCAA Championships, which will take place in The Aviary at Cerritos College on December 10-11.

Heading the group of 10 entries in the non-scoring tournament, defending 125-pound state champion Jonathan Prata (Downey HS) had a chance to get on the mat after working back from an injury and captured the title. He pinned his first two opponents before a 15-0 technical fall over Juan Diaz of Palomar College sent him to the finals. At the same time, sophomore Isaiah Perez (Sonora HS) was carving his own path to the championship match, as he received a bye in the first two rounds and then pinned both of his opponents, which set up an all-Cerritos final. The team decided to flip a coin to see who would be the champion and Prata was awarded the title.

At 174 pounds, freshman Stone Robledo (Villa Park HS) only needed to win two matches to capture the championship and both were decided by a pin. He opened with a pin in 2:20 against teammate Cobe Hatcher (Mayfair HS) and then in the finals he pinned Hunter Brophy of USC in 3:43. Hatcher won his next match and then settled for fourth place when he was defeated by Uriel Vasquez of Bakersfield College.

Freshman 141-pound Kai Ocampo (Lakewood HS) was defeated in his first match, but came back for three convincing wins in the consolation round to advance to the third place match. He recorded a pair of major decisions, including one against teammate Marcos Nottingham (Long Beach Wilson HS) and pinned another before his day ended with a major decision loss to Palomar College's Randy Lockwood, who defeated him in the first round.

After advancing to the semifinals at 165 pounds, freshman Vincent Perez (South Torrance HS) was defeated by eventual champion Humphrey Quirie of Cuesta College, which sent him to the consolation round. A close 7-6 win over Jesus Navarrette of Bakersfield College was followed by a loss by pinfall in the third place match by Cuesta's Gabe Carillo.
