Competing at the Meathead Movers Tournament at Cuesta College on Saturday, the Cerritos College wrestling team won a pair of weights on their way to the tournament title. The Falcons finished with 159 team points, with the Menlo Wrestling Club in a close second place at 158 team points. Next up for Cerritos is a conference match at Palomar College on November 2.

Sophomore 149-pound Mario De La Torre (Temescal Canyon HS) breezed his way to the championship, as he pinned his first two opponents and then registered a pair of technical falls in his other two matches. He opened by pinning Ian Clark of Cuesta College in 1:44 and then needed just 55 seconds to pin Kevin Goodman of Chabot College. Continuing his dominance, De La Torre did not allow a point in his 18-0 victory over teammate Jake Topartzer (San Juan Hills HS) in the semifinals and then ousted teammate Spencer Parry (Yorba Linda HS), 16-0 in the championships. Topartzer ended the day coming in fifth place.

The Falcons other champion was sophomore 285-pound Kobe Pablo (Cypress HS), who pinned four consecutive opponents to reach the finals. Two of his pins came in the first round, while in the finals, he needed to go to three overtimes to defeat Santa Ana College's Joseph Nava.

At 174 pounds, freshman Zack Harkey (Dana Hills HS) started off with a loss, but then won five consecutive matches to coming in third place. He pinned both Benjamin Valencia of Palomar College in 2:47 and then pinned Juan Nuno of West Hills-Lemoore College in 6:02. That was followed by a 12-3 major decision over Anthony Hidalgo of Rio Hondo College before pinning Efrain Duenas of Modesto College. Harkey went on to pin his final two opponents, including DJ Weimer of Palomar College in 52 seconds.

Sophomore 197-pound Armando Sandoval (Los Alamitos HS) had a solid day, as he advanced to the championships. With pins over his first three opponents, including over Miles Kiline of Moorpark in the semifinals in 2:06, which advanced him to the championships. He was pinned by top seed Christia Davidson of Cuesta in the finals, 5:37.Freshman Ben Setum (Pacifica HS) advanced to the third place match at 184 pounds after winning five times in the consolation round.

Also placing for the Falcons on the night were freshman 125-pound Carlos Garcia (Magnolia HS), who came in fifth place after reaching the semifinals, as well as 133-pound freshman Levi Waller (Heritage HS), who won four of his final five matches to also come in fifth place.
