Joining the Cerritos College men’s basketball staff for
his second season is Chris Morrison, who prepped at St. Anthony
High before transferring to Western Washington University and then
embarked on a professional career overseas. Over the last two
seasons (2009-11), Morrison was the head boys’ basketball
coach at St. Anthony, while he spent the 2008 season as the
girls’ basketball coach at Bishop Amat High. He also served
as an assistant girls’ basketball coach at Bishop Amat in
2007 and began his coaching career in 2006 as an assistant coach at
Long Beach Poly High.
Morrison played four years for the Sun Coast Clippers in Australia
and led them to the National Championship in 1997, while he was the
only player to average a triple-double in the league’s
history. That season he was also voted the league’s Best
Point Guard, while he won the Slam Dunk Contest. Morrison also
spent four years playing in Finland for Hi-Tech Basket Finland and
Joensee Kataja Basket, where he was named the league’s Player
of the Year three times and was selected to the all-star team all
four years.
While at St. Anthony, Morrison was named 1st Team All-CIF, as
well as 1st Team All-Los Angeles Times and selected
to the Press Telegram Dream Team. He earned 1st Team
all-conference honors as a senior at Western Washington
University.
Morrison earned a Master’s Degree in Education and Education
Administration. Morrison and his wife Maria, have a daughter, Mia
and son, Christopher, Jr.
