Coming in with over 25 years of coaching experience, Murphy Davis will be entering his second season as a member of the coaching staff. Over the years, Davis has coached at Solano College (2000-02), San Bernardino Valley College (2010-13), Glendale College (2013-14) and Antelope Valley College (2014-16), while also running training camps and sessions over the years.

Davis started his coaching career in the early 1990’s under legendary AAU coach Paul Polk in Oakland, CA, where he had to opportunity of coaching players such as Gary Payton, Jason Kidd and J.R. Rider, among others. From 1992-98, Davis worked as a volunteer with the Magic Johnson Foundation (MJF) and assisted with many of its basketball camps and clinics for underprivileged youth in urban communities throughout Los Angeles County.

He then went on to spend two seasons at Solano College, while also conducting training clinics in the Bay Area. Davis then joined the staff at San Bernardino Valley College as an Associate Head Coach from 2010-13, and helped them make two Elite 8 appearances and advanced to the Sweet 16 all three seasons. One of his players, Jerry Blakes was named the CCCAA Player of the Year in 2013-14 and earned a scholarship with Arizona State University.

Davis then moved on to Glendale College for one season and then joined the staff at Antelope Valley College for two seasons, which included reaching to the state championship game in 2015-16.

Davis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Cal State University, East Bay in 2003 and a Master of Arts in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University in 2013.

Davis, 57, and his wife Pam reside in Downey and have two daughters (27 & 19); one of which earned a Bachelor’s degree from Cal State Long Beach and a Master’s degree from USC, while the other is currently a sophomore at Cal State Long Beach.
