Rob Brooks enters his third season as a member of the Cerritos
College men’s basketball coaching staff. Now in his
11th year as a college basketball coach, Brooks started his
career as a student-assistant and head manager at USC, where he
spent four seasons (2003-07) under head coach Tim Floyd. While with
USC, Brooks held several roles, which included working with the
day-to-day operations, meeting with the Associate Athletic Director
in charge of academics to help monitor the athlete’s academic
progress, as well as game preparation, summer camps, travel and
practice preparation. During the 2007 season, Brooks was a part of
the Trojan program that won a school-record 25 games (25-12) and
reached the Sweet 16.
After his time with USC, Brooks accepted the Associate Head
Coaching job at Stoneridge Preparatory School in Simi Valley, a
highly-recognized high school program. Brooks ran day-to-day
practice, followed up on the student-athletes academics and
recruiting. During the 2007-08 season, all 13 of the
student-athletes graduated, while 11 of them went on to play
college basketball, including USC standout Nikola Vucevuc. Brooks
then became one of the youngest Division 1 assistant coaches in the
nation (24 years old) when he accepted a position at Jacksonville
State (AL) University of the Ohio Valley Conference. His main
responsibilities were improving the APR/Academic standing of the
basketball program, recruiting, and game prep for a third of the
teams on the Gamecocks schedule. After JSU, Brooks was the head
assistant coach at nationally-renowned Western Nebraska CC, where
he took on all aspects of the program, including recruiting.
Brooks attended Los Alamitos High, where he was a two-year varsity
basketball player and captain under current Falcon head coach Russ
May. Brooks went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in
Sociology from USC and currently resides in Temecula, CA.
