Now in his eighth season as a member of the staff, Jose Esparza serves as the lead assistant coach. His experience as a club coach had helped funnel many players to the college. He started his coaching career with Chivas USA of Major League Soccer from 2004-14, while also coaching the Pats of the National Professional Soccer League in 2015. Additionally, Esparza has coached for the LA Blues of the USL (2015-17), LA Galaxy Academy (2019-22), Chivas Guadalajara, Chivas USC, Atlante FC, LA Galaxy and currently with Beach FC.

A graduate of Mayfair High, Esparza embarked on a professional playing career that saw him spend time with Chivas Guadalajara (2003-04) and Atlante FC in Mexico (2004-06).

Esparza, 40, and his wife Josie were married in 2022 and reside in Bellflower.
