Now in her second year as an assistant coach with the Cerritos
College women’s tennis program, Jenny Tsai will be working
with Alvin Kim, who took over responsibility of the program last
year. Tsai will lead the team to matches when the men’s and
women’s programs are playing at different sites. As a player,
Tsai prepped at Cerritos High School, where she was a
three-time 1st Team all-league selection and was voted her
team’s Most Valuable Player three years in a row.
She transferred to Cal Poly Pomona, where she was a four-year
letterman. In singles play over her career, Tsai played as the
team’s #1 singles player her senior and junior years, while
she was their #2 player as a sophomore and #4 her freshman season.
Tsai posted a career singles record of 44-38, which included a
17-22 mark at #1. As a junior, she advanced to the quarterfinals of
the ITA West Regional Championships before dropping a 7-5, 6-4
score to Elena Hudzikova of the University of Hawaii-Pacific. As a
sophomore, she reached the semi-finals until a 1-6. 0-6 loss to
Yuliya Ustyuzhanina of the University of BYU-Hawaii.
In doubles play while at Cal Poly Pomona, Tsai finished with a
43-34 mark, which included a 15-4 record teaming with Katrina
Holmberg her freshman and sophomore year. The two advanced to the
ITA West Regional Championships her freshman year, but were
defeated by Ustyuzhanina and Tetyana Bula, who were seeded #3. She
teamed with Jessica Winkler as a junior to advance to the
quarterfinals, but were beaten by Ingrid Cseh and Tinka Mihova of
the University of Hawaii-Pacific.
Tsai earned her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Cal
Poly Pomona and is continuing her studies to be a physical
therapist.
