Off to their best start since 1999-2000, the Cerritos College men's basketball team improved to 6-0 after their 71-55 win at Pasadena City College on Monday. The Falcons, who started off 9-0 during the 1999-2000 season, will host Copper Mountain College at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Although the Falcons went 6:53 without scoring early in the first half, they were able to go ahead, 17-16 after a free throw from freshman Gary Williams (Dominguez HS), followed by a layup from sophomore Jonathan Salazar (St. John Bosco HS/New Mexico Military Institute CC) with 6:51 left in the half. Trailing, 23-21, Cerritos went ahead once again on a three-pointer from freshman Everett May (Los Alamitos HS), while the lead swelled to 31-23, which included a three-point play and five points from Salazar.

Taking a 33-27 lead into halftime over the Lancers (4-4), sophomore guard Jalen Shores (Lakewood HS) opened the second half with a three-pointer, which jump-started a 12-4 run to get out in front, 45-31. Shores also added another three-pointer during that run. A pair of short jumpers from Salazar saw the lead increase to 49-33 with 11:57 remaining.

The lead never dipped under double digits the remainder of the game, as the Falcons went on to record their 16-point win.

Salazar turned in his fourth triple-double of the young season with 25 points and 13 rebounds, with Shores finishing with 19 points, which included four three-pointers. Williams, who came off the bench, pulled down 11 rebounds, while May recorded eight points and five rebounds.
