Running at Carbon Canyon Park in Brea on Saturday, the Cerritos College men's cross country team finished in 11th place overall with 297 team points. The Falcons were one of eight community college teams competing in the Mark Covert Open, with 13 squads in total running. Next week, the team will run in the Fresno Invitational.

Of the 152 runners, freshman Anthony Lopez (Downey HS) was the first Falcon to complete the 8K course in a time of 27:26.24, which put him 65th overall. Three seconds later, freshman teammate Carlos Mendoza (Highland HS) was the 70th runner when he crossed the finish line in 27:29.63. The next two Falcon runners finished 10 seconds apart, with sophomore Alejandro Rios (Chino HS) posting his time of 27:55.43, good for 85th overall, while freshman Erick Ayala (Downey HS) placed 92nd overall in 28:05.04. With so many runners in the competition, the :39 seconds between the first and fourth runners for Cerritos saw them finish 27 places apart.

The fifth runner to help compile the team scoring was freshman Ricardo Cano (Schurr HS), who ran the race in a time of 28:18.77, which put him in 97th place overall. On the day, the Falcons entered 24 runners, with six of them finishing in 118-123, while sophomore Daniel Garcia (Whittier HS) took 100th place in a time of 28:24.36. Also running were freshman Sergio Hernandez (Canyon HS) in 28:47.40 to take 108th place, while freshman Isaiah Marshall (Carson HS) took 113th place in 28:58.62.
