Although there was only a :19 second difference between their first and fifth finishers at the SoCal Championships on Friday, the Cerritos College men's cross country team came in 12th place. They qualified for the CCCAA State Championships, which will take place on November 21 at Woodward Park in Fresno.

The strong blocking of times is what every team strives for when running at invitationals. For the Falcons, their first runner didn't finish until 58 other runners had completed the 4-mile course at Mission Bay Park in San Diego, which is reason for the team's finish.

Men finished 12th at SoCal Championships Freshman Carlos Mendoza (Highland HS) led Cerritos with a 59th place time of 22:12.31, while the top five runners were park of a large pack of runners that shaped the overall team standings. South Coast Conference rival Mt. San Antonio College came in first place with 82 teams points, with the Falcons as the next highest placing team from the conference.

Also part of that wave of runners was freshman Ricardo Cano (Schurr HS), whose time of 22:16.05 put him in 66th place, with freshman Anthony Lopez (Downey HS) right behind in 68th place with his time of 22:17.33. Maintaining the solid grouping was the duo of freshmen Joshua Reinis (Kennedy HS) and Isaiah Marshall (Carson HS), who turned in 83rd and 86th place times, respectively. Reinis recorded a time of 22:29.61, with Marshall checking in at 22:31.25.

On the day, the Falcons had two other competitors, which included sophomore Alejandro Rios (Chino HS), whose time of 22:44.51 put him in 105th place, while freshman Erick Ayala (Downey HS) placed 172nd with a time of 24:30.92.
