On Saturday at Orange Coast College, the Cerritos College softball team scored three times in the top of the seven inning, but it wasn't enough in a 6-5 non-conference loss. The setback was the fifth in the last seven games for the Falcons (13-16), who will travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 3:00 p.m. South Coast Conference game on Tuesday.

Trailing 6-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning, sophomore shortstop Tena Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) led off with a walk and advanced to second base on a fly out. With two outs, sophomore designated player Kayla Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) singled in Spoolstra. A double by freshman outfielder Itzel Soto (Long Beach Millikan HS) put runners at second and third base, with sophomore outfielder Victoria Medina (Whittier HS/Rio Hondo College) bringing the Falcons within a run with her two-run double. Freshman third baseman Sophia Collazo (Paramount HS) popped up for the final out of the game.

The Pirates (16-14) broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore starting pitcher Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) tossed the first four innings and allowed four runs on six hits, with sophomore Ally Udell (Whittier Christian HS) pitching the final two innings.

On the day, Hernandez and sophomore first baseman Keira Bolinas (Torrance HS) each collected a pair of hits, while Medina and Hernandez each drove in a pair of runs.
