In their first competition of the season, the Cerritos College wrestling team defeated three of four opponents at the Mt. San Antonio Duals on Saturday. The Falcons (3-1) opened with a 33-20 win over Bakersfield College, followed by wins over Santa Ana College (23-15) and West Hills College (32-12) before suffering a 23-18 decision against Palomar College. The team will now travel north to compete in the West Hills Tournament on Saturday.

Over the course of the weekend, seven Cerritos wrestlers won all of their matches, led by 125-pounders Gabe Ballesteros (Mesa, AZ HS) and Dustin Kirk (Elsinore HS), who each won both of their matches. Ballestertos picked up wins against Bakersfield (11-8) and Santa Ana (12-4), with Kirk pinning both of his opponents in the first period. He also added a win by pinfall in an exhibition match. Sophomores Ryan Medina (Warren HS) went 2-0 at 141 pounds, as did Greg Barrera (Northwest, TX HS). Medina picked up a pin against Bakersfield College, as well as an 11-5 win against Santa Ana. As for Barrera, he won a 12-5 decision against Palomar and a 12-2 decision when he faced West Hills.

Freshmen Keanu Tom (Los Alamitos HS) went 3-0 at 157 pounds, as did Maxwell Kumashiro (Los Alamitos HS) at 174 pounds, while Jeremiah Gerl (Calvary Chapel HS) winning two matches at 197 pounds and another at 184 pounds. Tom held off Nathan Mateo of Santa Ana, 6-5, as neither recorded a point in the third period, while he picked up a win by pinfall against West Hills and pulled away for a 13-8 win in the match against Palomar. Kumashiro recorded wins over Santa Ana (11-3) and West Hills (10-6), while he scored an early takedown against Palomar and went on to win, 3-0. As for Gerl, his win at 184 pounds was 2-0 win over Raul Hernandez, with 3-1 and 6-4 wins at 197 pounds.
