Sophomore Sydney Carr (El Modena HS/UC Irvine) accounted for four goals and an assist to lead the Cerritos College women's soccer team to a 6-0 South Coast Conference South Division win over Long Beach City College on Tuesday. The state leader in goals (22), points (55) shots (91) and tied for second in assists (11), Carr recorded her sixth straight multi-goal game in a row. The Falcons (11-0-0, 4-0-0), who are ranked #1 in the country and the state, will travel to Mt. San Antonio College for a 4:00 p.m. conference crossover game on Friday.
It was sophomore Serena Camacho (Los Osos HS/UC irvine) that got Cerritos on the scoreboard in the 21st minute when she fired a shot into the upper corner of the goal after receiving a pass from sophomore Brianna Yepez (Paramount HS). Carr then took over the game, scoring the next three goals, with one coming in the first half and the remainder in the second half.
A mere 1:21 after the Camacho goal, Yepez fed Carr across the middle of the field, where she sent a shot that went under Vikings goalkeeper Sara Larios, as she went down to make the save. In the second half, Carr drove past Vikings defender Leah Rouse along the outside and got Larios off balance, as her shot went under the keeper, who attempted to kneel in an effort to record the stop. Having a hand in all four second half goals, Carr made it a 4-0 game when her high shot went under the crossbar, while she assisted on a goal from Yepez in the 79th minute. In the final minutes of the game, Carr completed her four-goal outing when she controlled a pass from Natalie Garcia (Santa Ana HS), turned and lined a shot past Larios, who didn't even move.
On the day, the Falcons out-shot the Vikings, 21-4, with sophomore goalkeeper Deisy Rodriguez (Katella HS) earning her ninth complete game shutout of the season.
