Through the first 13 games this season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team has outscored their opponents, 71-1, and remain undefeated after their 3-0 win on Tuesday. The South Coast Conference crossover win over host Chaffey College was the 10th shutout in a row for the Falcons (13-0-0) and 12th of the season. The team has seven regular season games remaining, with five of them on home turf. Cerritos will host Pasadena City College at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in another conference crossover game.
In the win over the Panthers (8-2-2), sophomore goalkeeper Deisy Rodriguez (Katella HS) had un uneventful first half, but came up with five second half saves to secure the shutout. She has yet to allow a goal all season and the six stops were a season-high.
The scoring got underway in the 10th minute, as the offensive powerhouse tandem of sophomores Sydney Carr (El Modena HS/UC Irvine) and Serena Camacho (Los Osos HS/UC Irvine) paired up to give the Falcons an early lead. On a free kick, Camacho received the ball after a rebound and took the ball into the 18-yard box. Drawing the defense to the left side, Camacho was able to cross the ball to Carr, who recorded her state-leading 24rd goal of the season. Just four minutes later, she put #25 into the back of the net, with the help of freshman Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS), who has quickly become another scoring threat.
Securing a loose ball in the middle of the field, Corrilo turned upfield and sent a ball through the Panthers defense to Carr, who went in on a breakaway and chipped the ball into the net. The lone goal of the second half came in the 69th minute, with Camacho spotting Corrillo in the box. She sent a pass over the defenders, where Corrilo was able to complete the play and recorded her eight goal of the season.
The Falcon defense did another outstanding job holding their opponents off the scoresheet, and were led by sophomores Brianna Yepez (Paramount HS), Elizabeth Mendez (Long Beach Millikan HS) and Jennifer Lopez (Marshall Fundamental HS), along with freshmen America Ontiveros (Santa Ana HS) and Jazmin Lora (La Habra HS).
