In their first home game of the season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team held visiting Ventura College off the scoreboard for the first 78 minutes of the game. The Falcons,, who had very few offensive opportunities, held back the Pirates as long as they could until they scored twice in the final 12 minutes to post a 2-0 decision. The team will now host College of the Desert at 3:00 p.m. on Friday in another non-conference game.
The Falcons did receive strong goalkeeping from sophomore Victoria Ruiz (Applied Technology Center HS), who made several outstanding second half saves and finished with six stops on the day. Additionally, the defense did a strong job of turning Ventura away on many of their offensive possessions. Along with Ruiz, Isabel Vasquez (Cerritos HS), Marlene Rosas (Warren HS/Santa Monica College), Jaque Adame (North Torrance HS) and Genesis Mendoza (Bellflower HS) were solid along the back line.

It was a crossing pass in the 79th minute that proved to do the team in, while another shot sailed over the outstretched hands of Ruiz 10 minutes later served as an insurance goal.
Madelynn Jones (Liberty HS) provided two of the team's shots on the day, with one on goal.
