Joining the coaching staff for his first season is Jason Gelber, who has coached at all levels of football. He will coach the linebackers and serve as the front seven defensive coordinator. He’s been coaching for over 30 years and will bring his vast experience to the Falcons coaching staff.
A graduate of Niles West High School is Skokie, IL, Gelber was an all-league linebacker and upon graduation, transferred to USC, where he served as a student-coach from 1989-93. He was part of the Trojans Rose Bowl championship in 1990, as well as the teams that played in the Sun Bowl and Freedom Bowl.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Studies from USC in 1993.
His extensive coaching career seen him work for the Oakland Raiders (1993-97), University of San Diego (1997-98), USC (1998-99), Occidental College (1999-2001, 2011-12), University of Minnesota (2001-03), Citrus College (2003-04), El Camino College (2004-06), University of Virginia (2006-07), Tarleton State University (2007-08), UC Davis (2008-10), Texas A&M University-Commerce (2010-11), Cathedral High (2012-15), Mary Star of the Sea High (2015-22) and Servite HS (2022-23).
Over the course of his career, Gelber also earned a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration from the University of Minnesota in 2002.
Gelber, 43, and his wife Monica have been married for 24 years and have three children – Mya, Brisa and Sabine. The reside in Redondo Beach.
