In his first year as a defensive line coach for Cerritos College, Kendall Blackburn has coached all over the country and at every level. His coaching career started at Servite High (1985-89) as an offensive coordinator, and then he moved on to the University of Nebraska (1989), William Penn University (1989), University of Nevada, Las Vegas (1990), Serra High (1990-91) and then switched to the defensive side for four years at Mater Dei High (1991-95) as a defensive line coach. Blackburn then took a job coaching the defensive line at Cal State Northridge from 1995-96, and then spent 1997-2005 as a tight ends and tackles coach at New Mexico State University. He moved on to the Arena Football League as a fullbacks coach for the Los Angeles Avengers in 2005 and then was the offensive coordinator at St. John Bosco from 2006-08, running backs coach at Corona Del Mar High (2008), assistant head coach for the Boise Burn (2009) of the Arena Football League 2, and finally back at Mater Dei High from 2010-12.
Blackburn prepped at Moorestown (NJ) High before moving out west
to play at Taft College and then Cal State Long Beach for two
seasons as an offensive lineman. While at Taft, Blackburn was an
all-conference and 2nd Team All-State selection, while he blocked
for the nation's #3 pass offense as a senior.
In his spare time, Blackburn serves as the president of the Urban
Coaches Association after serving for eight years on their Board of
Directors. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education
with a minor in History from William Penn University in 1990.
Blackburn, 53, and his wife Kristi have been married 11
years, live in Lakewood and have two dogs, Bo and Sugar.
