Starting his second season on the staff is former Cerritos College quarterback Pete Montera, the son of longtime assistant coach Frank Montera. He will be coaching the wide receivers and serving as the passing game coordinator. From 1989-90 as a member of the Falcons, Montera served as the starting quarterback as a sophomore with head coach Dean Grosfeld as his back-up. In 1990, Montera completed 85-of-187 passes for 1,169 yards and nine touchdowns, while also rushing for another touchdown.

An All-CIF and all-league selection at Kennedy High, Montera spent three seasons on the football team and was a two-year starter. After graduating from Cerritos (1989-90), Montera then transferred to Boise State University, where he spent the 1991 season with the Broncos.

Montera started his coaching career at Kennedy High School (1992-94) and helped lead them to the league championship. He then moved on to Mayfair High School as their Offensive Coordinator from 1995-2015 and helped them win a pair of CIF Championships and 10 league titles. He then coached at Valley Christian High from 2016-18 and added another CIF title and three league championships to his resume. After that, Montera joined the Bellflower High staff from 2019-21.

Montera is also a faculty member at Bellflower High and is in the Bellflower Teachers Association.

Montera earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from Cal State Fullerton in 1994 and Master’s degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University in 1999.

Montera (52) and his wife Dena have been married for 27 years and have two children – Tristan (20) and member of the basketball team at Midland University, and daughter Chloe (17) who is on the soccer team at Brea High. They reside in Brea.
