The Cerritos College men's tennis team remained undefeated, as they swept past visiting Riverside City College, 9-0 on Tuesday. The Falcons (6-0) will travel to Santa Barbara to take on NAIA Westmont College at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
After competing with their top three doubles tandems, Cerritos went to their bench for half of their singles matches and still posted straight set wins over the Tigers. The top two doubles teams of Sasha Krasnov (School 106, Ukraine) and Nikita Katsnelson (Odessa Gymnasium No. 1, Ukraine), along with Aleks Trifunovic (Katrinelunds Gymnasium, Sweden) and James Zhang (Shenzhen Luohu Foreign Language School, China) combined to lose just three games.
Zhang moved into the #1 singles position and earned a solid, 6-1, 6-2 win over James Andra, while freshman Bruno Duarte (Centro Educacional Rogêdo, Brazil) recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win in the #2 position on the ladder. Duarte also teamed with freshman Marcos Paulo Silvestre (Colégio Tiradentes, Brazil) for an 8-6 doubles win.
Sophomore Henry Ayesiga (Malezi School, Kenya) surrendered just one game in his straight set win, while freshmen Biel Roca Carreras (Iguolada, Spain) and Kwang-Eun Lee (Sunny Hills HS) finished off their opponents, 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2, respectively. Freshman Carlos Mendez (Instituto de Educación Secundaria Ies El Palo, Spain) had the closest match of the day, but came away with a 6-1, 7-6 win over Thierry Van Os.
