After a season in which the Cerritos College men's water polo team finished second in the South Coast Conference and qualified for the Southern California Regional Playoffs, they were rewarded with postseason awards. Freshman Dominic Hernandez (Schurr HS), who led the team in goals (88), steals (62) exclusions drawn (42) and was second in assists with 40, was named All-American and 1st Team All-Southern California. Sophomore Mario Vanzillotta (Colegio Palas, Brazil), the team's leader in assists with 60, while scoring 50 goals and recording 29 steals, was a 2nd Team All-Southern California selection.
The two of them, along with sophomore Joey Hurtado (Cerritos HS), were named 1st Team All-South Coast Conference, while sophomore Seamus MacDonald (Long Beach Millikan HS) and freshman Owen Fahringer (Long Beach Millikan HS), received 2nd Team all-conference recognition.
Hernandez scored in 27 of the games in which he appeared, including a season-high eight goals against Redlands University and six against Long Beach City College. Additionally, he posted a season-high four assists in the first game of the season against Sierra College and had a season-high four steals against Saddleback College. His 88 goals are the 10th most in a season in school history, while his steals total are the 15th most. As for Vanzillotta (pictured, left), he ranks ninth in single-season history with his assist total and concludes his career with the seventh most assists at 101. He scored at least one goal in 29 games this season, which includes a season-high five against Grossmont College and turned in five steals against Both Redlands University and Cypress College.
Hurtado capped his career with 63 goals, with 35 of them coming in 2021, while he also had 26 assists and 29 steals and also drew 38 exclusions. He scored three goals in a game five times and recorded three steals in three games. Hurtado also drew a season-high five exclusions against Orange Coast College.
As for MacDonald, he was a two-time honorable mention selection for the Falcons. He finished the season with 51 goals, six assists and 21 steals, while his 98 career exclusions drawn are the fourth most in school history. MacDonald's 51 goals were second on the team and included a season-high against Grossmont College and Redlands University. Fahringer, who saw most of the action in goal, recorded a 12-9 record and posted 195 saves. He had a season-high 16 saves against Rio Hondo College and followed up with a 15-save performance against Chaffey College.
