In her first season as an assistant coach with the Falcons is former two-time 3C2A All-American Alyssa Gutierrez. While playing at Cypress College (2006-07), Gutierrez helped the Chargers win the 2006 State Championship, as well as the Orange Empire Conference title two seasons in a row. In her sophomore season, she was named the Southern California Pitcher of the Year, as well as the conference’s Pitcher of the Year. After being the winning pitcher of the state championship game her freshman year, she helped the team to a third place finish as a sophomore.
During her freshman year, she was the state tournament’s Most Valuable Player after being voted the SoCal Player of the Year. At the plate, she set the 3C2A record for most hits in a season (91).
Gutierrez transferred to Lubbock Christian University and was a two-time All-American and helped her team to a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference championships. Additionally, she set an NAIA record by winning 90.4% of her games in the circle after going 66-7 with a 1.52 ERA.
A product of La Mirada High, Gutierrez was a three-time All-Area selection, while also being named the Suburban League Most Valuable Player twice. She led her teams to a pair of CIF Championship games after winning four consecutive league championships, while being voted the team’s MVP three times.
After her playing career ended, Gutierrez remained at Lubbock Christian to serve as their pitching coach from 2010-11 before returning to Southern California to spend 2012-14 as an assistant coach at Cerritos High. She helped them win three straight Suburban League championships and worked with both the pitchers and hitters.
Gutierrez went on to coach at Cypress College from 2014-17 and saw her pitchers earn the conference’s Pitcher of the Year award all three seasons, while they capped off the 2017 season by going 49-0 and winning the 3C2A State Championship. She earned her first co-head coaching job in 2017 at Anaheim High, where he was also the team’s pitching coach, while taking over as the lone head coach from 2018-21. During that time, she led the school to their first Orange Empire League championship in school history and followed that with a second title the following season.
Prior to coming to Cerritos, Gutierrez spent 2022-24 as the pitching coach at Santa Ana College, where she helped them win the conference title in 2022 and placed fourth at the state championships that season.
A member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), Gutierrez will earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology from Concordia University-Chicago later this year.
Gutierrez, 38, resides in Norwalk with her two sons, Ryan (6) and James (4).
