Down to their final three outs in a South Coast Conference game at El Camino College on Thursday, the Cerritos College softball team scored three times in the top of the seventh inning and came away with a 3-2 win. The one-run win was the second in three days against two of the tougher teams in the South Coast Conference, as the Falcons (16-5, 9-3) defeated Mt. San Antonio College, 2-1 on Tuesday. The team will travel to East Los Angeles College for a 1:00 p.m. conference game on Friday.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning, sophomore shortstop Ayiana Cardenas (Walnut HS) led off with a walk, which was followed by a base hit from freshman outfielder Carissa Amaya (El Rancho HS). Sophomore pinch-hitter Isabelle Casanova (Lakewood HS) stepped up and dropped a bunt single, which loaded the bases for the Falcons. Freshman outfielder Amarie Encarnacion (Norwalk HS) made it a 2-1 game when she drew a walk, which brought Cardenas home.

Freshman third baseman Marley Cortez (Gahr HS) then hit a grounder to Warriors (14-3, 8-2) first baseman Savanna Kastigar, who mishandled the ball, allowing two more runs to score. Cerritos left the bases loaded, but then turned to sophomore pitcher Tatyana Cortez (La Serna HS) to finish off the game.

Limiting El Camino to six hits and a pair of runs through the first six innings, Tatyana Cortez recorded strikeouts for the final two outs of the game, as the Warriors stranded a runner at first base. El Camino left at least one runner on base in six of the seven innings, with Tatyana Cortez (11-6) striking our four batters on the day.
