On Tuesday in their South Coast Conference opener, the Cerritos College softball team opened up a 4-0 lead and went on to defeat Los Angeles Harbor College, 5-1. The win by the state's #1-ranked team improved them to 7-0 on the year. They were slated to host Rio Hondo College on Thursday, but rain has moved that game to Monday, March 3.

Cerritos opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning when freshman outfielder Carissa Amaya (El Rancho HS) led off with a walk and eventually scoring on a double by freshman third baseman Marley Cortez (Gahr HS).

They added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning, which started when sophomore outfielder Morgan Fontela (Long Beach Millikan HS) led off with a walk and advanced to second base on a walk to freshman first baseman Valerie Vasquez (California HS). Sophomore designated player Briana Zarate (Legacy HS/Compton College) then stepped up and doubled both of them home before freshman pinch-runner Brianna Bailon (Schurr HS) scored on a sacrifce fly from Amaya. Cerritos capped off the scoring with an unearned run in the sixth inning, as Cortez scored on a fielder's choice from Vasquez.

Freshman pitcher Tatyana Cortez (La Serna HS) improved to 4-0 on the year after tossing the first five innings and allowed one run on six hits, while striking out five batters. Freshman Mia Star Miramontes (Sierra Vista HS) finished off the game, as she allowed two hits over the final two innings.
