For the third game in a row, the Cerritos College softball team scored all of their runs in one inning, as they went on to victory. It was more of the same against Fullerton College at Nancy Kelly Field on Saturday, as the Falcons scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning and posted a 5-3 non-conference win. Cerritos (25-6, 15-3) will play a rain make-up game at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at Rio Hondo College.

Scoreless through the first five innings, the Falcons finally broke free for five runs on six hits in the sixth inning. They had been limited to just two hits up until that point, but jump-started their inning with a one-out walk to sophomore shortstop Ayiana Cardenas (Walnut HS). Freshman Sienna Contreras (John Glenn HS), getting her first start of the season as the designated player, singled to right field, which marked her third time on base. Cardenas, who advanced to third on the single, scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Carissa Amaya (El Rancho HS). On the play, Hornets first baseman Veronica Moore cut off the throw, which prevented a play at the plate and allowed Cardenas to score.

Freshman second baseman Amarie Encarnacion (Norwalk HS) followed with an infield single. That set the table for freshman third baseman Marley Cortez (Gahr HS), who drilled a double off the left field wall for a two-run double. Freshman Savannah Gonzalez (Whittier HS), who had the team's first two hits on the day, singled for her third hit of the day. Sophomore outfielder Morgan Fontela (Long Beach Millikan HS) closed out the scoring with a two-run base hit.

Freshman pitcher Tatyana Cortez (La Serna HS) was able to leave runners on base in each of the first six innings, as she allowed six hits, walked three and hit another batter. She was still able to strike out six batters, with four of them being the third out of an inning. Cortez (18-6) struggled with her control in the seventh inning, as she walked three and allowed a two-run home run. The final out of the game came on a fly out to right field, where Gonzalez had her throw to the plate followed by sophomore catcher Vicky Najera (El Rancho HS) quickly firing to third base and got pinch-runner Victoria Tlialyatzi trying to advance on the play.

Gonzalez finished with three hits, while Contreras was 1-for-1 with a pair of walks.
