After spending the 2013 season as an assistant track coach,
Morris Jones, Jr. will assume the men’s head coaching
responsibilities, while he will continue to work with the
program’s sprinters. Jones has over 20 years of coaching
experience at the community college level and has coached over 20
All-Americans, All-Southern California and All-South Coast
Conference athletes. In 2007 and 2012, he was named the conference
Coach of the Year as a member of the Los Angeles Southwest College
and ECC Compton Center, respectively.
Jones was a three-year letterman in football at Long Beach Poly
High as a defensive back and then went on to earn his
Bachelor’s degree in African Studies and Public
Administration, as well as a Master of Public Administration from
Cal State Dominguez Hills. Jones has two daughters – Chanel
and Destynee – and lives in Long Beach.
