With four events serving as finals, as well as the heptathlon totals, the Cerritos College women's track and field team sits in first place in the standing after the South Coast Conference Prelims. The Falcons have already qualified nine entries after the prelims, while two more are advancing in the heptathlon. The SCC Championships will take place at El Camino on Friday.
Cerritos dominated the hammer, as they represent five of the six that qualified for the Southern California Prelims, which will be held at Cerritos College on May 3. Leading the way was sophomore Dimitra Vitogiannis (Downey HS), whose distance of 45.12 meters was a personal best. Also advancing to the SoCal Prelims are triple jumpers Andrea Alvarado (Paramount HS) and Zharia Taylor (Long Beach Poly HS), as they came in third place (11.21 meters) and fifth place (10.71 meters), respectively. The mark turned in by Alvarado was a personal best. Running for the first time in the 10,000 meters, sophomore Megan Feitz (Fountain Valley HS) finished in fourth place and was clocked in 40:48.17.
The Falcons also did well at the prelims in sprinting events, as sophomore Elena Mack (El Camino Real Charter HS) won the 200 meters with a time of 25.08, while sophomore teammate Alona Davis (Bellflower HS) was right behind in second place at 25.20.
