W. Track & Field: Emily Ortiz earns a pair of bronze medals at the U20 Championships

Competing in the Central American U20 Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica, freshman thrower Emily Ortiz (Tustin HS) took third place in two events on May 18. Ortiz, who qualified for the Southern California Championships in the discus and hammer during the season, placed third in the 1kg discus, as well as in the 4kg hammer.

Competing for Guatemala, Ortiz went 38.51 meters on her first of six throws in the hammer. It marked the second best distance after the first round and she ended up in third place in the event. As for the discus, her best throw of 36.28 meters came on her second of six attempts and she went on to earn her second bronze medal of the championships.

While with the Falcons this season, Ortiz turned in personal best distance of 40.29 meters in the hammer and 39.47 meters in the discus.
