After the Southern California Prelims, the Cerritos College women's track and field team have qualified 18 athletes, and both relays, to the Southern California Championships, which will take place next Friday at Cerritos College. The top nine in lane events, as well as the top 12 in distance races and field events, advance to the SoCal Championships. The only event that was scored was the 10,000 meters, with the top eight scoring team points.
Both relay teams came in first place on the day, while Milika Burdett (Cypress HS) won the hammer and Andrea Villalta (Norwalk HS) came in first place in the javelin. The 4x100-meter relay team of Jasmine Soto-Castro (Schurr HS), Elena Mack (El Camino Real Charter HS), Crystal Nguyen (Fountain Valley HS) and Alona Davis (Bellflower HS) posted a winning time of 47.89, with the quartet of Mack, Zharia Taylor (Long Beach Poly HS/University of Southern Mississippi), Nguyen and Soto-Castro recorded a first place time of 3:55.96. Burdett turned in a personal best distance of 46.20 to win the event, while the throw of 37.99 meters was good enough for Villalta to finish in first place.
