Showing their strength in the field events and relays, the Cerritos College women's track and field team turned in some strong marks at the Jim Bush Legends Meet on Saturday, which was held at UCLA. Next up for the Falcons will be the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic at UC Irvine next weekend.

Already holding down the top marks in the state in the hammer and javelin, the Falcons turned in a pair of second place finishes on the day. In the hammer, freshman Mackenzie Monson (South Torrance HS) registered a throw that covered 50.27 meters, which was the fourth time this year she cleared 50 meters. Monson currently has the best distance in the state at 51.10 meters. Sophomore Kyra Miedecke placed second in the javelin with a throw of 39.19 meters, a distance that would put her second in the state. However, she already holds the best distance of the year at 40.46 meters.

Monson also recorded the second best shot put distance of the year with her mark of 12.39 meters, which put her in fifth place on the day. Sophomore teammate Tupouahau Tauaika (Orange Lutheran HS/UC Davis) currently holds the best mark in the state at 12.80 meters.

In the running events, freshman Angel Corral (El Rancho HS) posted a time of 57.78 in the 400 meters, which put her in sixth place on the day, as well as moving her into sixth place in the state for fastest times of the year. Also running the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay team, Corral joined Jasmine Soto-Castro (Schurr HS), Jewel Scott (Warren HS) and Deona Standifer (Mayfair HS) to turn in a sixth place time of 4:00.37. It also was the third fastest time in the state in that event.

Moving into the top five in the state in the 4x100-meter relay with their clocking of 48.44, the quartet of Leeann Hong (Westminster HS), Corral, Simone Terry (Carson HS) and Soto-Castro came in fourth place in the meet.
