Cerritos women's track & field won four events at the Occidental Invitational

On Saturday at the Occidental Invitational and Distance Carnival, the Cerritos College women's track and field team won four events and saw another school record getting closer to being broken. Next weekend, the team will travel to Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego to take part in the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational.

Freshman thrower Mackenzie Monson (South Torrance HS) continues to have an outstanding season, and improved on her state best mark in the hammer. In addition to moving into third place on the college's Top Five list in the event, Monson recorded a distance of 51.10 meters on the second of her three throws. She's still a ways off from the school record of 56.51 meters, which was set in 2016 by Destiny Mack-Talalemotu. Sophomore teammate Emily Ortiz (Tustin HS) finished in third place in the event at 44.76 meters, while she also won the discus. Her toss of 41.19 was the best of the 23 entries in the event, while Monson posted a second place throw that traveled 40.15 meters.

The Falcons won both of the relay races, with the foursome of Leeann Hong (Westminster HS), Angel Corral (El Rancho HS), Jasmine Soto-Castro (Schurr HS) and De'Anjanae Reed posted a time of 48.56 in the 4x100-meter relay. As for the 4x400-meter relay, Soto-Castro and Corral ran the first two legs of their winning time of 4:04.67 and were followed by Jewel Scott (Warren HS) and Deona Standifer (Mayfair HS).
