Competing in the SCC Opener at Long Beach City College on Saturday, the Cerritos College women's track and field team won six events and finished in third place as a team with 135 team points. The Falcons will host the Cerritos Open on Friday.

Leading the way for the Falcons was thrower Mackenzie Monson, who won a pair of events and came in second place in another event. She easily won the discus with a distance of 39.97, while her best throw of 49.16 outdistanced the field in the hammer. The next Falcon was Emily Ortiz, who turned in a third place distance of 41.88 meters. The only person to beat Monson in the shot put was Abigail Gavrilovic, whose distance of 11.90 meters bested Monson's 11.09 meters. 

Also winning in a throwing event was Kyra Miedecke, who won the javelin with a distance of 40.46 meters, which was well ahead of her closest competition. In the long jump, Leeann Hong turned in a first place performance with a distance of 5.15, while teammate Simone Terry finished in second place at 5.08 meters. Hong also recorded a second place finish in the 60 meters with a time of 7.94, while Angel Corral took third in the 150 meters in a time of 19.28. In the 60-meter HH, Kailah Usi locked down first place with a time of 9.64.

The other winner on the day was the distance medley quartet of Jayla Barnwell, Ariel Alvarez, Lila Palmer and Diana Raya Perez, as they turned in a time of 13:32.46.
