Hosting the one-day Cerritos Mini Tournament II on Friday, the Cerritos College women's water polo team earned a pair of wins. They opened with a 14-3 victory over Southwestern College and then held off Palomar College for a 13-12 victory. The wins snapped a four-match losing skid for the Falcons (5-8), who will resume South Coast Conference action at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday when they host Mt. San Antonio College.
Cerritos vs. Southwestern: It was a consistent offensive attack against the Jaguars for the Falcons, as they scored four times in each of the first three periods. It was a three-pronged offensive onslaught for Cerritos, with Jewels Longoria-Morasky (La Serna HS), Camila Oliveira (Cerritos HS) and Delainey Garcia (California HS) combined for 10 goals and 12 assists. Longoria-Morasky, who scored three of her game-high six goals in the first half, with she and Garcia each dishing our five assists in the win.
As for Oliveira, she posted three goals and assisted on two others, with the tandem of Savannah Gafford (St. Joseph HS) and Jubilee Gil (Paramount HS) each recording a pair of goals. Freshman goalkeeper Clairissa Nuno (Cerritos HS), who was the recipient of the offensive output, turned away nine shots in the win.
Cerritos vs. Palomar: It was a comfortable 6-2 lead for the Falcons after the first period and an 8-4 advantage at intermission. However, the Comets came to life on offense in the third period and accounted for five goals - including three of the last four - in the period. After an early fourth period goal by Palomar made it a 12-10 Cerritos lead, Oliveira came right back to score her lone goal of the game, which turned out to be the game-winner.
Longoria-Morasky (five assists, eight exclusions drawn) and Gil each scored four times to lead the Falcons, while Oliveira assisted on six of the team's goals and drew a trio of exclusions. Cerritos was able to score five of their goals in 6-of-5 situations. Nuno recorded 10 more saves for the Falcons
