Opening South Coast Conference play on Wednesday in their first home match of the season, the Cerritos College women's water polo team posted an 11-4 win over Rio Hondo College. The Falcons (1-4, 1-0) will host Chaffey College in another conference match at 3:00 p.m. next Wednesday.

Early on, the team trailed 2-1 to the Roadrunners, who were playing their first game of the season. However, Citlali Antonio (El Rancho HS) and Sophia Wainwright (Cerritos HS) scored before the end of the first period to give Cerritos a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish. The Falcons scored all four goals of the second period to extend their advantage to 7-3, with goals coming from Wainwright, Antonio, Kylee McKenna (Sky Mountain Charter HS) and Hanna Gonzalez (Artesia HS).

Cerritos also kept Rio Hondo off the board in the fourth period, as Antonio scored all three of the team's goals. She led the team with five goals on the day and added three steals, with Wainwright finishing with four goals. Goalie Fenix Nolasco (Paramount HS) turned away nine shots to earn the win.
