The Falcon men's basketball team has dropped three of their first four games to start the season

Through the first four games of the season, the Cerritos College men's basketball team is having a hard time keeping their players from visiting the training room. The Falcons (1-3), who dropped two of three games at the Irvine Valley Tournament over the weekend, saw two of their players get injured, which forced the decision to suit a player who was going to be red-shirted. After opening with a 75-48 win over Imperial Valley College, Cerritos lost both a 65-60 decision to the host Lasers, as well as freshman guard Brian Nebo (St. John Bosco HS). That was followed by a 79-66 loss to Long Beach City College, which saw freshman guard Jonathan Brown (Fairfax HS) go down. Suiting up to give the team some assistance in the backcourt was sophomore Taylor Douglas (Mayfair HS), who has averaged 25 minutes a game in his two appearances.

The Falcons will try and get a player back in action on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. when they host Allan Hancock College in their only home game before conference play in January.

Cerritos vs. Imperial Valley: A trio of players scored 12 points to lead the way, including Nebo, who also added four rebounds in his 17 minutes off the bench. Sophomore guard Micah Winn (Crenshaw HS) struggled from the field, but did net a pair of three-pointers and converted all four of his free throws to finish with 12 points, as did freshman forward Jamal Watson (Lakewood HS), while the duo each pulled down seven rebounds each. Sophomore forward Jeff Gonzalez (Riverside Poly HS/Riverside City College) was the fourth Cerritos player to score in double-figures, as he finished with 10 points and added six rebounds. Freshman guard Tyler Payne (La Mirada HS) added nine points, four rebounds and three assists in the win, with freshman forward Cristian Perez (Santa Fe HS) contributing eight points and four rebounds.

Cerritos vs. Irvine Valley: For most of the first half, the Falcons held a lead over the Lasers, with a Douglas three-pointer giving them a 29-24 advantage with 4:03 remaining. But a 11-2 run by IVC the rest of the way gave them a lead they would not give up the rest of the night. The Cerritos deficit would get as high as 11 points (51-40), but they stayed within five points the rest of the way, with a lead not to be in their forecast. Winn led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, with freshman forward Anthony Lefeau (Orange Lutheran HS) coming off the bench to add nine points and seven rebounds. Gonzalez finished with nine points, while Perez pulled down six rebounds.

Cerritos vs. Long Beach City: Continuing to play shorthanded, Winn found a hot hand and tried to keep the Falcons close. He finished with a game-high 23 points, which included draining 11-of-11 free throws and also led the team with nine rebounds. Watson converted 5-of-9 field goals and provided 16 points and five boards, while Douglas added seven points off the bench. Cerritos trailed by 13 points at halftime after watching the Vikings get out to a 12-0 lead to start the game. They would get as close as nine points after being behind by as many as 20 points in the second half.
