Knowing they would be playing on a smaller field with a slick artificial surface, the Cerritos College men's soccer team looked to rely on their speed and skill-set to counter any strategy. The result was a 3-1 South Coast Conference crossover win by the Falcons (10-0-3). Earlier in the day, it was released that Cerritos had moved into the #1 national ranking among Division III (non-scholarship) schools by the United Soccer Coaches. The team will look to remain unbeaten on Friday when they travel to Rio Hondo College for a 4:00 p.m. match.

One player who used his speed to assist Cerritos in their first two goals was sophomore Adrian Becerra (Morningside HS). He helped the team take a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when he brought the ball deep into Huskies territory along the left sideline. Maintaining control of the ball while being defended, Becerra sent a crossing pass to sophomore Luis Garcia (La Habra HS), who got a clean strike on the ball and posted his ninth goal of the season. Later, in the 33rd minute, it was Becerra once again who had a say in the team scoring their second goal.

"I was really proud of our guys," said head coach Benny Artiaga. "They played extremely disciplined in a very tough environment. It was hot there and the turf is not the best, but we continued to grind and attack through areas we knew they were vulnerable. Adrian set the tone for us and broke them down."

Becerra sent a crossing pass to freshman Christian Perez (Paramount HS), and he handled the pass before bouncing a shot past the East Los Angeles goal for his sixth tally of the year.

The Falcons aggressive nature paid off again with six minutes remaining in the game. Already playing against a team that was two men down due to red cards, the Falcons had a chance to add to their lead. After getting fouled in the box, and Garcia stepped up to convert the penalty kick, which was his 10th goal of the season. The Huskies would go on to receive a third red card before the end of the game.

Just as he has all season, freshman goalkeeper Jordan Aldama (North Torrance HS) allowed the Falcons to maintain their lead with several outstanding saves. He finished with seven on the day although his bid for a shutout came to an end when East LA scored in the 87th minute.
