Holding out their top six runners, the Cerritos College women's cross country team still managed to come in seventh place at the San Diego Invitational on Friday. The absence of some runners allowed others to step up and they went on to compile 174 team points, which easily outdistanced them from four other schools that competed in the 5000 meter event. The team will now run in the UCLA Dual Meet on Friday, which will be held at Brookside Park at the Rose Bowl.

Running one of her strongest races of the season was freshman Maddy Focht (Long Beach Poly HS), whose time of 21:24.10 was good enough to come in 21st place out of the 87 competitors. She held off a trio of runners from Fullerton College, who came in third place as a team on the day. With only five runners entered in the event, the Falcons team finish would be based on their cumulative efforts.

Freshman Janet Salazar (Paramount HS) crossed the finish line in 22:16.70 to come in 33rd place, with freshman Katherine De La Torre (Pomona Catholic HS) in 39th place in a time of 22:47.90. The five runners were a bit spread out, with sophomore Angelyca Osnaya-Tyson (Long Beach Poly HS) checking in with a time of 23:01.80 to put her in 43rd place, while freshman Neiva Cuevas (Western HS) rounded out the team's effort with a time of 23:47.30, good for 48th place.
