The Cerritos College women's cross country team got the rare opportunity to compete against two of the biggest universities in the state. On Friday, the Falcons were invited to participate with USC and UCLA in their dual meet at The Rose Bowl in a 6K race. The team was not included in the dual meet scoring, but the experience is considered invaluable. Cerritos will take the remainder of the month off to rest until they run in the South Coast Conference Championships on November 1 at Heartwell Park in Lakewood.

Nine Falcons competed in the designed course, with the trio of Stephanie Ruiz (Western HS), Kathia Avila (Cerritos HS) and Kaela Crone (Kennedy HS) finishing in 18th through 20th places, respectively. Ruiz was clocked in 24:13.28, while Avila (24:30.80) and Crone (24:37.38) were not far behind.

Another trio were closely blocked together for most of the race, with Patricia Hurley (Mark Keppel HS) placing 23rd out of 37 runners with a time of 25:05.73), while Ariel Melendez (St. Paul HS) posted a time of 25:35.53 to finish in 26th place, and Janet Salazar (Paramount HS) came in 28th place in 26:00.45.

The final group of Cerritos runners were comprised of Katherine De La Torre (Pomona Catholic HS; 26:48.53; 34th place), Angelyca Osnaya-Tyson (Long Beach Poly HS; 27:07.74; 35th place) and Neiva Cuevas (Western HS; 29:23.68; 37th place).
