For the fourth time this season, the Cerritos College baseball team picked up a win in a one-run game. In one of the championship games of the SoCal Challenge, the Falcons posted a 4-3 win over West Los Angeles College in a game that was played at Long Beach City College. The 6-0 start is their best since the team opened by winning the first six games of the 1999 season.

Playing the Cougars for the second day in a row, Cerritos found themselves behind, 2-0 after the first inning. The Falcons picked up single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, while they scored twice in the seventh in what would be the game-winning runs.

In the seventh, sophomore Buck Anderson (Lakewood HS/Cal State Bakersfield) singled through the right side of the field and advanced to third base on an errant pickoff attempt. With runners at the corners after freshman outfielder Nolan Brown (Long Beach Poly HS) drew a walk, sophomore Bodie Parker (Cajon HS/Chaffey College) beat out an infield single, which plated Anderson. Freshman Andres Vega (Mary Star of the Sea HS) came on as a pinch-hitter and singled through the left side to drive home Brown.

Sophomore starter Andrew Arguello (La Serna HS/Orange Coast College) picked up his first win of the season by pitching six solid innings, as he allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out five batters. Sophomore closer Andy Hurtado (Downey HS/Rio Hondo College) earned his second save of the year by striking out four batters, including two in the ninth inning.

The Falcons will travel to Golden West College for a 2:00 p.m. game on Tuesday.
