Tied 2-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Cerritos College baseball team scored five times in the inning on their way to an 8-3 non-conference win at Chaffey College on Tuesday. The Falcons (19-4) will host West Los Angeles College at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.

In the five-run seventh inning, freshman shortstop Jake Fowler (Los Alamitos HS) singled with one out, which was followed by freshman outfielder Owen Martin (Narbonne HS) getting hit by a pitch. The bases were loaded after sophomore outfielder Diego Orozco (Long Beach Wilson HS) singled. With two outs, freshman designated hitter Brody Cuellar (Bishop Montgomery HS) reached base on an error, which allowed a pair of runs to score. Freshman first baseman Wyatt Ormonde (Long Beach Millikan HS) followed with a big three-run home run to put the team in front, 7-2.

Freshman pitcher Nolan Patterson (Long Beach Millikan HS) had pitched very well through the first eight innings and allowed three runs on six hits to pick up his fourth win of the season. He retired the first nine batters of the game before allowing a run in the fourth inning. A two-out double in the sixth inning tied the game at 2-2 before the Falcons went in front for good. Freshman relief pitcher AJ Gonzalez (Gahr HS) started the ninth inning and walked a pair of batters while recording just one out. Fowler moved onto the mound and set down the two batters he faced.

Martin went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, while Ormonde went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Sophomore catcher Nate Gardenswartz (Long Beach Wilson HS) was 1-for-3 with a walk, RBI and scored a run on the day.
